Submit a comment to our blog by and let us know your all-time-favorite book to read with students. Read-alouds, chapter books, novels, anything goes! Submit your comment by May 16 to be included in our random drawing. One lucky teacher will win seven books that just might become new favorites.

Here are some other favorite freebies, events, and goodies for you:

You’ll find hundreds of lessons and thousands of activities—all free—at ABCmouse.com. Load up on ideas for literacy, math, science, health, social studies, music, and art for preschool to grade 2. Click here.

Mark your calendar now for the Rock One Sock campaign. It’s a simple way to show your support for missing children and their families. Between May 21–25, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is asking you to take a picture or video of you and/or your students wearing one sock. Share that image on social media and your class could win a $500 gift card. Get the details at RockOneSock.org and click on Schools. While you’re there download the free Rock One Sock lesson plan pack too.

Would a little grant money help fuel your classroom programs? Find out how to apply for a $2,500 grant from Farmers Insurance and vote for others in the running. Up to 180 teachers receive funding, and five teachers receive grants worth $100,000. Learn more at farmers.com/thank-americas-teachers.

I think my all-time favorite read-aloud is a little book called Baby Danced the Polka. It has drama, it has intrigue, it has a dancing polka-dotted pig. What could be better?

  1. The Ghost Next Door, I read the beginning of school and every chapter ends with a cliff hanger so students can’t wait to come the next day and hear the next chapter.

  2. Elmer and the dragon by Ruth Stiles Gannett – I am reading the series to my kids now. A teaching partner told me about it and I thought I would see what happens and the kids are eating it up. Love when a book, even better a series, draws them in.

  3. It has to be Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I still get goosebumps every time Charlie finds the last golden ticket.
