Bring on the Debates! Win a Book/DVD/CD Set

Did you watch the presidential debate last week? It got me thinking about how a few rules for debates can apply to the classroom: share the talking space and, when you disagree, be respectful. With more debates on the way, it’s a perfect time for me to connect you to freebies that let your students join the conversation, support a cause, and grow into responsible voters.

, 2016, to tell me which of the items below would help you in your classroom. From the comments, I’ll randomly select one teacher to win the book/CD/DVD set for Grace for President, where Grace’s quest to be the first female president provides a look at the US electoral system. (Update: congratulations to Isabel, who is the winner of our prize.)

Use this free toolkit to teach them to listen, share, and then decide as they engage in civil debate and conversation. You can also download a free “Join the Debate” poster as well as a free US presidents poster. It’s all here.

It’s the Cat in the Hat, and the first order of business is determining which cause should win $10,000: education, ocean conservation, the environment, fighting hunger, or kindness. • I teach a very diverse group of kids in a therapeutic setting and I think Grace for President would be a great fit for class.

  1. I love the Cat in the Hat for President. This is a recognizable face to my younger students and will hold their attention as we discuss the election process which can be overwhelming to them.

  2. I teach 3-5 year olds in a high poverty area and they are already familiar with Cat in the Hat. That would be so cool to be able to have them participate and help some else! Please and thank you!

  3. Grace For President would be the perfect book for my bilingual/ special needs kindergarten students. I think this book would be a great resource not only for my classroom but for all the children in my school. Thank you!

  4. My third graders are emerging writers. The Cat in the Hat would be my pick to use! They could learn to investigate issues, cite sources, and write persuasively. I love it❤️

  5. Grace for President would be an awesome addition to our inner city classroom. My students would definitely identify with the Grace 🙂

  6. Grace for President would be a great aloud for my students. It will my students understand more about what is involved in the process to become president.

  7. Grace for President would be a good book to add to my collection! I’m an elementary education major and am starting to build my library of “themed” books.

  8. Hi Grace for President would be an exciting addition to my class of eager second graders. Most of my students are minority and second language speakers so this debate is of interest to them and their families, the Book set and DVD would add to explain the process and give them an intelligent way to understand election to which they can share with their families.
    Please vote for us!

  9. As I am student teaching in a 1st grade classroom, Grace for President would be a great starting resource for me to teach my students.
