I’m not wearing green. Not a stitch. I often show up lacking in color for a lot of holidays because I tend to gravitate toward neutral clothing. If you could peek in my closet right now, you would see a sea of gray, black, and beige. (You would also tell me very sternly that I need to reorganize my closet, because it’s a mess.) Every season, I tell myself that this is the season I will wear crazy vibrant colors. This past weekend, I actually bought a peach-colored tank top. Peach! So maybe you’ll notice a new Kim in future blog photographs.
In celebration of colors, here is one of my favorite colorful projects from our book Storytime Arts & Crafts. (I’m the managing editor of this book, so I’m a little partial to it!) This project goes with a favorite classic, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, by Eric Carle and Bill Martin Jr.
So – are you wearing green?
A “Bear-y” Colorful Reminder!
Retelling the story is easy with this colorful memory jogger!

two 3” brown construction paper semicircles (ears)
6” brown construction paper circle (head)
9” x 12” white construction paper
ruler
tempera paint (red, yellow, blue, green, purple, white, black, orange)
paintbrushes, one for each color
crayons, including an unwrapped brown crayon
glue
Setup:
Draw eight one-inch rows on the construction paper.
Steps:
1. Paint each row in the order shown to reflect the color order in the book. Let the paint dry.
2. Rub the side of the brown crayon on the head and ears.
3. Use the crayons to draw bearlike details on the head and ears.
4. Glue the ears to the head; then glue the head to the back of the paper as shown.
5. Draw a teacher and children at the bottom of the page.
6. Use the project to retell the story.
No green for me today but the kids were all in green. LOL. Love the bear what a great memory jogger and idea for the kiddos.
