I just learned that anchors aweigh means to drop anchor. I’ve always assumed the phrase was spelled anchors away and meant to pull up anchor. Isn’t learning great?
And here’s where I transition to anchor charts. In a sense, anchor charts are a way of dropping anchor on particular learning topics. During a recent classroom visit, I saw colorful anchor charts displayed in a several different classrooms. One chart was a visual reminder of story elements. Another chart, this one an ongoing chart, listed a variety of feelings and examples of storybook characters that experienced those feelings. One anchor chart sported a class set of labeled sticky notes, showing that each child had contributed to the resulting learning poster. |
Would you agree that anchor charts are great learning tools for children? Do you use anchor charts in your classroom? Have you discovered a timesaving approach to making anchor charts? Oh, I’m just full of questions! Do share!
Curious as always,
Diane
