This upcoming Monday is National Slap Your Irritating Coworker Day! Okay, so I don’t really recommend following through on this holiday because it won’t do anything to increase unity among your fellow teachers–but I understand the urge. Perhaps you have a coworker who is…
- Too detailed. This person has to nitpick every single thing.
- Too lax. This person can never get anything accomplished.
- Unable to leave the staff meeting without asking at least 3 pointless questions.
- Critical of everyone.
- Just not friendly.
I know that a good slap would make you feel better. But here is my suggestion. If you must, mutter unflattering things about this person over a glass of wine in the evening. But during work, kill them with kindness. I recommend:
- Smiling enthusiastically at the individual. Gritting your teeth counts.
- Complimenting the person whenever you can find something positive.
- Deep breathing. It will reduce your blood pressure.
- Exercise. It’s a better way to take out your frustrations than slapping.
Try to remember that differences make us all unique and entertaining. All the best!
