One day when I was young—probably around 12 years old—my mother read in one of her women’s magazines that the best way to get all the ketchup to the top of the large, plastic squeeze bottle was to grasp it by the bottom and swing it around in a giant circle. It really works! It also creates an insane mess when the bottle top accidentally flips open and creates a perfect circle of ketchup on your floor, cabinets, appliances, and ceiling. We had a popcorn ceiling, and I still remember Mom grumbling as she used a rag to pick bits of ketchup from the bumpy plaster.
That’s just one of my family’s favorite stories. Did you know it’s National Tell a Story Day? That refers to not just stories from memories or imaginations but those from books as well!
What book or books did you read to your students today?
Here’s a fun freebie for you for one of my favorite books, Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina. Enjoy!
We read the Old Lady who Swallowed a Frog. The kids loved it.
We read “It Looked Like Spilt Milk.” Then we made our own “spilt milk” creations.
