When I taught, I couldn’t keep track of the days during summer vacation. Calendar time each morning during the school year is a vivid reminder of the current month, day, and year. So when you take away daily calendar time, I’m totally lost.
I’m pretty good at keeping track of the days working in educational publishing, but I can’t keep track of the months or the seasons. I realize that makes me sound a little addled, but here at The Mailbox we occasionally find ourselves working on a magazine or book that is off season. It’s completely confusing to write a feature on snowmen in June or a beach unit in November. “What month is this?” is not an uncommon question. (By the by, the oddest question I’ve ever asked a fellow editor here at The Mailbox is probably “Does this cookie character look okay in a one-piece bathing suit?” But I digress…)
Do you lose track of the days during the summer? And what are your summer plans?

Chill and relax. Of course I lose track of what day it is, Thats sort of the point to me. Along with it though I will be reading some of hte new resource books I just got from Mailbox.
It’s hard for teachers not to dream too big! I would love to have a cart that I can places 6-9 crates (boxes) to help organize my Classroom Library. It would great if it had wheels to make it portable in the classroom so I could have a moveable library in addition to the classroom library. I would also like to have a chart stand that holds big paper to do interactive writing or model writing. I also love the chart paper that is lined and is on tag board. Oh how we teachers dream! It would be great to have technology like iPads and mini iPads to bring more technology in to help focus on reading and math skills. Now to come back to reality!
I AM A TEACHER BUT IS SO HARD FOR ME TO KEEP UP WITH THE DAYS,MONTH AND EVEN YEAR! MY FIRST GRADERS ALWAY KNOW WHAT DAY IT IS IN THE SCHOOL YEAR BUT NOT ALWAYS SUMMER VACATION… MY FIRST GRADERS USE A VERY HELPFUL SRATEGY CALLED THE DATE FOLDER.THEY RECORD THE MONTH DOWN ON A SHEET OF PAPER AND WRITE THE EVENTS TO COME. THEY CROSS OFF THE DATE. AND I WOULD ALSO LOVE TO THANK THE MAILBOX CREW FOR ALL THEY HAVE DONE FOR ME… THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!!!!
