Top 3 Crafts for Chinese New Year!

paris-93535_960_720Chinese New Year is coming up on January 28, and here are my three favorite classroom crafts to help you and your students celebrate the occasion!

1. These bowls of long noodles to symbolize a long life.

                                                                                                                                   2. A dragon craft to remind students of the dragon dance that symbolizes wisdom, power, and wealth.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                            3.These lovely lanterns to commemorate the lantern festival, which concludes the Chinese New Year (Spring Festival) time period.

  1. Chinese New Year for 2017 is the year of the rooster. And people focus on priorities: reconciling with people, and avoiding offense. They purchase new clothes and give gifts.
    Red envelopes with cash are exchanged. People dine on fish (prosperity),
    dumplings (wealth),and Tangshan (family togetherness). With my preschoolers we make Chinese lanterns,drums and decorate the rooms with sparkling red and gold garland,ribbons,etc. I bake walnut cookies and prepare Spring Rolls and we celebrate.
    My family and I go to Chinatown where lanterns are put up for decoration,some are let loose,and some float in the river. Time to celebrate… Gong Xi Fa Cai! ?
