The Fourth Quarter

Okay, I confess. I actually watched part of a basketball game this weekend. 🙂 And guess who it made me think of. You! It was the final quarter of the game. Players on both teams were scrambling to score. Time was running out. Yipes! That’s when it struck me that the fourth quarter of a ball game is much like the fourth quarter of the school year. There’s only so much time left!

Have you begun the fourth quarter of your school year? Are you feeling stressed? Are there certain skills or concepts your students are struggling to learn? How can we help you?

Here to help,

Diane

  1. I need more time for testing and teaching! I feel like all I do the last months of school is test and there is hardly any time for teaching!

  2. You could choose to motivate the children through sports themes…
Maybe every time they turn in an assignment, they can shoot one of those small “suction cup” basketball hoop sets or try to kick a field goal with a paper football goal game.
Also, you may want to have each child decorate a paper football helmet or jersey and add stickers for good behavior or work turned in.

Also with behavior, I have a large poster-board sized football field and each of my students has a paper football with their names on them. Each day they begin on one side of the field and each time I catch them with good behavior, they get to move their football 10 yards closer to the goal line. Once they are in the opposite end zone, they get to visit the treasure box in my room.

Any little games like these tend to keep them motivated and gives them a chance to get out of their seat a few more times a day which really helps as spring fever has set in!!

  3. After 21 years of teaching I will never get used to the mad rush this time of year.
I would love ideason how to keep it fun for the kids.

  4. As we review for test I make it into games like Jeopardy…Are You Smarter Than a First Grader/Third Grader since I teach Second Grade Password. WE’re still covering the material but in a FUN way.

  5. We only have 45 days of school left! In that time, we have to finish teaching as much as we can, do 2 state or/and district tests, do PTA meetings and start preparing for summer. YaY!
