The Expected and the Unexpected

Today is the first Friday in September, so what can you expect to be taking place at The Mailbox Blog? A First Friday Giveaway for sure! We have a giveaway on the first Friday of every month—it’s something you can expect. A student bringing a pet python to school—now that’s unexpected! So is a pooch pilot!

The unexpected can bring joy, surprise, fear—a whole gamut of human feelings and emotions. I recently observed a ginormous dog (a Newfoundland to be exact) walking through airport security with its owner. This unexpected event warmed my heart and made me happy for the pair of pals.

What is something unexpected that’s occurred since the beginning of your school year? Tell us right here at the blog, and you’ll be entered to win your choice of a free eBook or set of eUnits from The Mailbox! Just be sure to enter before midnight EDT, September 14, 2014.

Happily,

  1. The unexpected thing that has happened thus far is that I love teaching 4th grade. After 15 years in 3rd grade, I was promoted. I was upset at first, but I am now really enjoying it!

  2. Last week was an awesome start to the school year…we were all so excited. On Friday, I remembered that Monday was Labor Day and that I had a three day weekend already! It seems that time flys by so quickly these days, especially when we are having fun with our students!

  3. Wow we have only had 3 dayys of school so far but I have to say how much my 4 year kiddos have grown, matured and lost their baby faces. Makes me sad.
But the most unexpected thing that has happen since I began teaching the child who filled my letter bag with dog fur for letter F.

  4. Oh goodness, I guess the thing that was most unexpected was when the students arrived after coming to Meet the Teacher night. I had a student that was so sweet and pleasant when she came with her Mom. However, for five days straight she has screamed and cried and pitched fits throughout the day. It is so strange because every single time we went to try to console her, she would get louder and louder! Today she did do better. She only pitched a fit one time and that was at the beginnig of the day. It makes it so hard for my other students to hear so they usually just put their hands over their ears! Oh the joy of being a Kindergarten teacher!

  5. Sadly, what’s unexpected for me is that my district might be on strike by next Friday! Please pray that our negotiating teams can solve our differences fairly and before that day!

  6. No red flags!!! We had meet and greet and it went great and no red flags for kids with any serious problems! And the other thing was I am heavy on boys this year which sometimes can be a little “rough” but I have the sweetest boys ever this year!!!! And I think they are all blond as well!!!! Which is kind of funny! And the youngest kid in my class is actually the most mature!!!! And lastly, on our last day, one little boy who had cried the first few days, walked in with a smile on his face and had a great day!

  7. * I grabbed my son hermit crab and got scared so I dropped it. Poor thing didn’t make it. My son and I were very sad. I explained to him was an accident. Now he still missing his little friend and still telling me that is okay. My son has a big heart he feel compassion for me eventhough he lost his pet.
