Talk to the Parents

November 18–22, 2013, is American Education Week. This blog is posting on the second day, which is Parents Day, when participating schools invite parents into the classroom to witness a typical day of learning. Of course, by now most of you have had parent-teacher conferences, open houses, curriculum nights, and various after-school activities during which you’ve interacted with most of your students’ parents.

Still, there may be something you’re missing. Or perhaps there’s something you’re really desperate to say to all the parents at your school that you just never hear said by anyone. From asking parents to send their children in with healthier snacks to asking them to keep their kids home when their noses are running like open faucets, from thanking them for extra boxes of tissues to cheering their extra effort with a child’s homework, now’s your chance.

No judgments. No fear. If you could say one thing to your students’ parents that hasn’t been said, or that you really need to make sure that they hear, what would it be? Take full advantage of the comments section below.

  1. Not sure if this is a no holds kind of thing — but here it goes — You are not doing your child any favors by doing everything for them. They need to develop self help skills. There are so many others — but that would just be too mean!

  2. How about thats not allergies causing a runny nose like that. I get that parents cant stay home from work but we are not a daycare.
But for the most part I think I have great parents that do their best.
