Sleep Patterns

I’ve been delighted so far with the response to my previous blog entry on morning motivation tips and techniques. In fact, it’s been quite a motivator for me, getting me out of the house in the morning to get to work and see what new ideas you’ve left in the comments.

Here’s a quick question for you today. Are your students getting enough sleep? Recent studies have shown that adolescents go through a natural phase during which they stay up late and perform better at school when they can get a later start. Asking a 14-year-old to start school before 8 a.m. is just a bad idea, data shows. Elementary school-age students should generally be going to sleep earlier and be ready for earlier school start times.

Share what grade you teach and whether you think your students are getting enough sleep to do their best.

PS: Remember to leave your morning motivation tips here to be entered to win a free book from The Mailbox! Tips must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, January 20, 2013, to qualify.
