Scramble to Win! iPad Minis and Two Books Are Up for Grabs

I’m “egg-cited.” I just received two new egg-themed books that I want to share with you, and the timing couldn’t be better. You see, Monday, December 15, is the deadline to enter for a chance to win one of three iPad minis from the American Egg Board. I don’t want you to miss that opportunity or the free ready-to-use resources to teach about modern egg farming, nutrition and science, the importance of breakfast, and more!

In Nonna Tell Me a Story: Lidia’s Egg-citing Farm Adventure, Nonna Lidia takes her grandchildren on a trip to a farm where they have chicken-and-egg adventures that lead to a full-scale family culinary celebration. (You won’t want to miss the “egg-cellent” recipes that are included in this book!)

Rupert the rabbit is the star of Rabbits Don’t Lay Eggs! This little bunny burrows into a farm and attempts (and fails) several barnyard tasks, including laying eggs, until he finds he has a perfect talent to earn his keep.

  1. The book about the bunny really resonated with me. When I was a little girl, I was raised around chickens and rabbits so I knew that rabbits didn’t lay eggs. So, the whole Easter bunny deal was confusing to me.
Finally, my parents told me that it was really an Easter turtle which was slow and did lay eggs and that was supposed to explain why Easter only came once a year.

  2. My favorite way to eat eggs is make a toad in the hole, similar to an over-easy egg lightly fried in a hole in the center of a bread slice. It was a quick, kid-loved nutritious breakfast.

  3. My favorite go to is a blend of scrambled eggs and omelet. My next favorite is Cheese Bunny – a roll cut out in the middle with an egg in the middle hole, at the last 5 minutes of baking cheese is added to the top. A new favorite is a toasted cheese sandwich with a hole cut out in the middle and an egg added to and baked.

  4. “Toad in a Hole” with a hole cut in the middle of a piece of (whole wheat, of course) bread, buttered on each side, and fried with an egg in the hole- runny yolk for one of my 3 daughters and sort of scrambled for the other 2, and one won’t eat pepper on hers. It’s truly a labor of love!
