Our Address

Last week, we got it in our heads that we could be the difference. We thought we could really start the ball rolling with teachers and students and show you how easy it is to participate in the Learn the Address effort. So come on! Join us!

Learn the Address (learntheaddress.org) is an invitation from filmmaker Ken Burns (creator of The Civil War, Jazz, Baseball, The Dust Bowl, Our National Parks, and World War II, among other documentary miniseries) to record yourself on video reading Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. Simply read, record, and post your video to YouTube and then share the link on the learntheaddress.org website. And voila! Your video sits side-by-side with readings by President Barack Obama, comedians Stephen Colbert and Louis CK, former-congresswoman Gabby Giffords, TV host Robin Roberts, and everyday Americans from every corner of the nation and beyond.

We did it. You can too. Sure, we threw some clever editing tricks in, but you don’t have to. It’s really all about honoring the 262 incredible words Abraham Lincoln spoke 150 years ago at the dedication of the cemetery at Gettysburg that begins “Four score and seven years ago…”

We invite you to join us in this noble effort. See our video here. And be sure to visit the Ken Burns website, learntheaddress.org, to see much more and learn how easy it really is to be a part of this.
