Online Classes for Teachers

Have you taken an online class recently? I’m curious about your online learning experience. What can you tell me? Love it? Sorta love it? Don’t really love it?

Also, remember to post your wish for A Genie From The Mailbox? before midnight EDT tonight, November 30, for a chance to win a seasonal surprise from The Mailbox!

  1. I have taken several professional development classes online in the past two years. I was extremely impressed with the curriculum and the manner in which instruction was presented. I loved being able to go at my own pace and get ahead for weeks when I knew I would be busy. I enjoyed the class discussions online also. You could read the posts and then have time to think before formulating a response.

I have not take an online class for college credit, so I can’t speak to that.

  2. I have had to renew my license several times over the pass years. To do this I took a course on
    http://www.armchaired.com

This site lets you choose a course in a variety of subjects. You get the book from Amazon. To complete the course you read the book, complete a few essay about the subject area and then complete a multiple choice test.

I found this site to be very helpful and easy to use. It is set up to cater to teachers who may not be able to attend a class and can work from home.

  3. I am taken online classes for both credit and for profession development. My favorite professional development comes from SimpleK12.com It is filled with wonderful webinars, resources and courses from anything to productivity tools to web2.0 tools, ipad resources and professional development that would normally be stuffy/boring in person. I love it!!
My other experience was from a university and being that it was for a grade it was way more stressful!

  4. I am currently taking online classes to obtain my Master’s. Although, I do miss the actual in class and teacher interaction, I do like being able to do online classes.I love not having to be some where at a certain time and that I can check grades and to assignments whenever, as long as they are in by due date/time.

  5. I took a few online courses as part of my undergrad and loved the experience. I then completed my entire 10 course, Master’s program entirely in an online setting. It was great!!
There are drawbacks to online learning. I discovered this in my online Statistics class. I don’t recommend Math in an online setting unless you’re a big Math whiz.
However, my grad program was great! You do have to be organized and remember to check on your class’s updates daily. It’s important to participate and to be in great contact with your professor.
    I LOVED online learning immensely!

  6. I have taken on-line courses for college credits. I did like the idea that I could do the given assignments at my own pass and during times that accommodated my schedule. The only problem I had was understanding what the professor wanted. He left a description of the assignments and I gave him what he asked for, but it wasn’t what he wanted. When I asked questions he only replied with I needed to relax. Make sure you understand all your requirements.

  7. I’ve taken several online courses and will start my Master’s program next week. I love it. The flexibility is awesome. I can work at 2am if I want to or on my lunch at school. I would probably enjoy some classroom collaboration with my peers but being able to do it in my PJ’s at home is amazing. 🙂
