Monumental Facts About the Statue of Liberty, Plus an Awesome Book to Win

The Statue of Liberty stands in New York Harbor. But did you know that she’s not just standing? In fact, the heel of her right foot is lifted, as if she’s about to take a step. But where would she be going?

Get the facts and have some fun thinking about where Lady Liberty might go with Her Right Foot (Chronicle Books) by Dave Eggers. To win a copy, submit a comment to this blog by 11:59 pm on Wednesday, July 18. In your comment, guess what size shoe the Great Lady would wear. (I’ll give you a hint, it’s less than size 1,000.) You don’t need the right answer to win, so just take a wild guess! One lucky teacher will be randomly selected to win this book.

  1. I would guess she would wear a size 802. This looks like a great book to go along with all that is going on in our country right now.

  2. That looks like an awesome book! Wow, I thought I had trouble finding shoes! I am going to go with the 999 1/2 shoe size!

  3. I am betting on size 776 (reminds me of 1776 and Independence Day). I love teaching about Lady Liberty every May as part of our American symbols unit. This would be a great addition – thanks!

  4. Someone else said the size that I was going to enter, but I’ll enter it anyway, because I don’t see anything that says two people can’t have the same choice. She wears a size 776 shoe.

  5. I got to see “Libby” last December! I love her so much, I cried when I saw her! I think she would wear a size 659!

  6. A size that’s bigger than Big Bird, but smaller than Godzilla! I do believe it’s size 879, however it would be impolite to ask her!
