Submit a comment to the blog by 11:59 pm EDT Sunday, June 12, 2016, to tell me which of the programs below may help keep your students’ noses in books this summer or to suggest a reading program that you know will help! Here are a few favorite reading programs you may find in your hometown.

Barnes & Noble Summer Reading TriathlonIt’s the 20th anniversary of Barnes & Noble’s Summer Reading Program. Stores across the nation will kick off the celebration on June 4 with activities and giveaways. Students in grades 1–6 will want to be sure to pick up a Summer Triathlon Reading Journal too so they can read to earn a free book. Learn more here.

Scholastic Summer Reading ChallengeScholastic is inviting kids ages 4–14 to “Be a Reading Superhero” this summer. In this free program, kids log reading minutes to unlock stories from favorite authors and earn digital rewards. Plus you can register your students and track their progress.   1. Many of my students will probably participate in the Book Adventure program. Also, we just had the Community Services Librarian at out school promoting the public library summer reading program.

  2. I love the Barnes and Noble reading program. I always share this with my students, many of who do have many books at home. It is a fantastic way to earn a free book of their own and we have a Barnes and Noble within walking distance which makes it very accessible for my students.
