I have the cutest mulch pile in the neighborhood!
Several weeks ago, I had some trees cut down, and the tree company left a pile of mulch the size of a small car in the middle of my yard. So last week, I finally got around to shoveling the mulch onto my flower beds. Things were going along swimmingly until, when I stabbed my shovel into the mulch, the pile squealed at me. I’ll be honest with you—I screamed. The neighbors were in their driveway and gave me one of those looks. (“We’re concerned because she screamed, but we suspect she might be unbalanced.”) Once I calmed down, I sifted through the mulch and found a baby bunny. And another baby bunny. And another baby bunny. And another baby bunny. And another baby bunny…
It’s true what they say about bunnies.
Fortunately, I had not hurt any of them with the shovel. I had just messed up their burrow. So now I have five of the most insanely cute little bunnies living on my mulch pile. They’re so small that they blend right in, so I assume the neighbors think that I talk to the mulch pile every day. I’m going to start getting an interesting reputation in the neighborhood.
In addition to the bunnies, I have birds nesting in my maple tree and my hedge. I have oodles of butterflies. And my flower garden is looking lovely—at least it will until the 
bunnies start eating it.
