It’s a Pot of Gold!

I recently went through some life changes that involved getting married, selling my house, and moving into my husband’s house. The result of the home sale allows me to feel more comfortable than usual about the amount of money in my bank account.  I’m not flush with wealth by any means, but I am able to purchase fancy cheese more frequently without debating whether it’s in the budget. I feel a bit like I’ve found a very small pot of gold.

That’s why this graphing activity strikes a chord with me, although I don’t see, “buy fancy cheese,” as one of the options. Try creating this graph with your students. (If desired, make it fancy like the one shown by mounting chart paper on a black pot cutout.) Then follow up with a writing activity instructing each child to discuss his choice.
