Is the Elf on Your Shelf?

You can’t go on Facebook or Pinterest at this time of year without seeing a million The Elf on the Shelf ideas. And everyone has their opinion about it. Some parents love it. Some parents have no desire to place the extremely difficult-to-pose little guy (or gal) in random situations. Who has the time? I can barely get all my Christmas shopping finished, and I don’t even have children!

For some reason, it never even occurred to me that The Elf on the Shelf could be an asset in the classroom. But there are bunches of cute ideas, writing connections, and art projects online should you decide to undertake the challenge.

What do you think about The Elf on the Shelf? Would you (or do you) use the elf in your classroom?

  1. I wish we had Elf on a Shelf when my kids were young! I love the ideas that people have come up with! Maybe I will do it next year.

    Raemi 🙂

  2. My intern has been using it and it has gotten my second graders to beg us to let them write! Today when it was time to write, they begged us to let them write letters to “Christmas” our Elf and others wanted to write to Santa and explain their behavior yesterday. I’ve also seen some better overall behavior and kindness this week. They have created a couple of “Elf Projects” for Christmas and they are adorable. This could be something I do start doing next year! I’ve really enjoyed their excitement. 🙂

  3. I plan to buy one after Chirstmas to use next year. I listen to the kiddos and they love their elves and I cant wiat to use it in my classroom.

  4. I use an elf I purchased from Oriental Trading with the Velcro hands in my Preschool room.
Every night she moves to a different place (after she comes back from telling Santa how the children’s behavior was that day). The children look for her every morning.
I’ve used it for School age children in Before and After Care programs, the 5th graders love to tell the younger children to watch their behavior!
