I Miss My Hour

I woke up this morning, and it was pitch black outside. I have a tough time getting out of bed on the best of days, but the darkness felt extra cruel this morning because my body thought it was 5:30 instead of 6:30 am. (To be honest, I’m a night owl. I think the best workdays would run from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm with mandatory three-day weekends.)

But I do have to say that I enjoy how it’s still light outside when I’m driving home from work. It makes me realize that spring is right around the corner. I truly enjoy spring! I’m all about some rainstorms, pretty flowers, and mild weather. We’ll talk again when it’s time for summer, because I have a whole different attitude about that season.

Instead of focusing on my desire for more sleep, let’s start thinking in a springy state of mind. Here’s one of my favorite springtime classroom activities. Enjoy!

From Seed to Sproutseeds

To prepare for this adorable and simple craft, fold a 6” x 18” piece of construction paper in half lengthwise for each youngster. After a planting activity, have each child unfold the paper and arrange it horizontally on a table. Then encourage him to paint the area below the fold line brown. Have him sprinkle glitter (seeds) on the wet paint. When the plants from your class project have sprouted, help students paint their fingers green and make prints (sprouts) above the fold line as shown. Developing fine-motor skills, investigating living things

So how do you feel about losing an hour of your life?

  1. I totally hate time changes. I am tried the children are tired and the parents are tired. Or at least make a holiday the day after each time change so no one has to work.

  2. I don’t like the time changes, it takes my body several weeks to adjust. I wish we didn’t have Daylight Savings Time.
