Gobble, Gobble—It’s a Giveaway!

Gobble, gobble—it’s the first Friday in November. This of course means it’s giveaway time at The Mailbox Blog. The winner of this month’s giveaway will receive the mystery bag pictured and all of its contents. To enter for a chance to win this month’s bag of thankfulness, simply leave your answer to the question below in the comment section before midnight on November 12, 2017.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever gobbled?

So what’s in the bag? Well, if I told you it wouldn’t be a mystery would it? Ha, ha! Here are a few clues: There’s something sticky, there’s something foamy, there’s something fuzzy. Two items are fun to look at and read. Another item is totally for students and another item is mostly for the teacher. Oh, and there’s something crafty inside too! (On November 13, be sure to check your inbox for the email address you used to submit your comment. That’s how the winner will be notified.)

Good luck!

Diane

PS: I recently ate a burger topped with a fried egg. I thought it was strange, yet tasty!

Congratulations to Raelene, the winner of this month’s giveaway!

  1. It would be deer meat that I did not know that it was deer meat until after I ate it. I took one taste and spit it out. I knew it was not something I would eat. My husband said it was beef.

  2. The strangest thing I’ve ever gobbled would be Natto – a Japanese dish that is generally served for breakfast. It is fermented soybeans – sometimes with mustard or other seasonings added. It is definitely strange. Second strangest …. Vegemite – from Australia. Leftover brewers yeast …. spread on toast or bread. Our Aussie friends love it. I am not a fan.

  3. The strangest thing I have ever gobbled is a dish made with sheep brain.
I was thankful to not know before I tasted it, but it would have been disrespectful to the host if I did not try it.

  4. A parent recently sent dried kale for snack (it was vegetable day). I ate some. It was okay, but certainly not my preferred vegetable. My pre-K students would not even try it.

  5. As a child I was given a persimmon by a family friend who thought it was hilarious to watch me react to it. My mouth was drawing up, puckering…not funny.

  6. Gerber Chicken Noodle baby food (firsts). Yes, the totally strained and to many stinky baby food. I can eat it as a meal, snack, and any time of the day. It’s kind of like pudding to me. YUMMY IN MY TUMMY!!!! ????Lol

  7. As a kid, I remember on a hot summer day making myself a “float. . .” a large glass of cold lemonade with a scoop of chocolate chip ice cream floating in it. I should try it again as an adult and see what I think of it now!

  8. A cheeseburger on a square glazed donut. It was amazing. Chocolate covered bacon. Also delicious. Fish eggs or caviar , also delicious. Liver and onions, not so delicious. Lol

  9. I am not one to be adventurous when it comes to eating. I’ve had beefalo burgers before and it was tasty. Beefalo is a cross between a cow and a buffalo.

  10. The strangest thing I’ve ever gobbled was a Moose-meat enchilada. I was invited to dinner and had just put the first bite into my mouth. Oh, my heavens! I truly thought the enchiladas had gone bad! I ran to the kitchen sink to spit it out and then ran back to the table and warned my hostess not to eat any of hers! Not knowing that I didn’t know Moose-meat was supposed to taste that way, I convinced her to throw the enchiladas away! Oops!

  11. One time I was caring for a 2 yr old and she wanted what I had (Skittles gum) thinking it was just a piece of gum. She popped one in her mouth, and chewed a couple times before spitting it out and declaring that it was nasty. I took it, and not wanting to throw it away (I LOVED Skittles gum) I popped it in my mouth…once i got over the toddler slobber it was fine. Lol

  12. I haven’t really gobbled anything strange but I have become more willing to try new foods at school with the kids.

  13. I would have to say insects. I have tried many different kinds – usually as a challenge from my kids who have no problem eating bugs like grasshoppers and crickets whenever they visit the science museum gift shop.

  14. The strangest thing I’ve ever gobbled was duck that I tried while I was on a cruise. Always like trying new things.

  15. Fried fish eggs & frog legs! When I was s kid, my dad had my mom cook them up after a fishing/gigging trip. One time I remember the fish eggs exploding in the skillet & splattering all over the kitchen, even the ceiling! ????

  16. I’m sort of gullible so when my husband of one day told me on our honeymoon that frog legs taste like chicken I gave them a try. They weren’t too bad. Then I found out he had never eaten them and he wouldn’t try them ha ha! Ever sense then we have tried something new on our anniversary. We have had shark and swordfish, and alligator and rattlesnake, etc. But the frog legs have to have been the most impressive in my mind because it started it all!

  17. Goat ???? while in Jamaica ????????. Didn’t know it was goat ????, at the time. I have to admit it was pretty good. Lol.

  18. Honestly one of the strangest thing I have ate (I have not clue on the name) But i had a friend from Vietnam and he told me it was a fruit.. But then confessed after I ate it, it was a mix of fruit and a meat product.. (I’m a vegetarian :-/ )

  19. Dog meat (while teaching in South Korea). I covered it in spicy sauce and ate my piece very quickly. Also ate bondaegi while there and it tasted like squishy dirt (it was silkworm larva)

  20. The strangest thing I have ever gobbled was something that was served in the school cafeteria. I am not even sure what it was. 🙂

  21. Coon, was the strangest (& most untasteful) thing I have gobbled. Like so many others, I am thankful that I did not know what it was until after it was swallowed. When I finally saw it cooking, it actually looked like a dog (yes, a dog..woof, woof). I was sick all over again!

  22. The strangest things I’ve eaten are cold marrow from inside goat bones and raw Linnie. – ground lamb with burgle or cracked wheat. The kibble is yummy, the marrow not so much.

  23. The strangest things I have ever gobbled were on a cruise about twenty years ago. We ate oxtail soup and escargot for dinner one evening. They tasted good, but now I am a vegan, so the weirdest thing I have eaten recently was jackfruit – not that good.

  24. The strangest thing I’ve ever eaten was chicken while in Jamaica. My husband had me convinced it was one of the goats on the other side of the resort that we could see through the fence, when we left our room. All-inclusive resort, so there may have been several alcoholic beverages involved. Hahahaha

  25. We were invited to a chicken stew. I thought I was getting chicken stew but, come to find out it was turtle stew. It wasn’t bad, it was just the thoughts of eating it. I also have ate squirrel.

  26. Parts! I lived in Asia and often have ones at work he market was only able to buy animal parts???? I would simply call them chicken or beef but was honestly never sure.

  27. I am a very picky eater, so I tried brussel sprouts for the first time a few weeks ago and I liked them! They were smothered in lemon and garlic though, so maybe that’s why lol ????

  28. Spaghetti squash is really weird to me. I can’t get over the texture… It’s definitely not a good replacement for the real thing!

  29. Raw chicken wings (on a trip to Japan once…) Ate some (a teeny teeny amount) to be polite but that was it… Not sure I’ll be trying to ever replicate that meal.
