Submit a comment to the blog by 11:59 pm EDT Sunday, June 7, 2015, to tell me which resources are your favorites. One lucky teacher will win three bug-themed books plus their extras! Check out the buzzing, gliding, hopping bugs in Some Bugs; then grab the accompanying net and magnifying glass for some backyard bug exploration. In Butterfly Park, a young girl inspires her entire town to plant flowers that will attract butterflies. (The inside of the book jacket doubles as a flower identification poster!) Then let the battle begin in Bug Wars: Deadly Insects and Spiders Go Head-to-Head. It profiles fearsome insects and spiders and features realistic illustrations. (Update: congratulations to Twila, who is the winner of our prize.)

  1. Oh, my! I like bugs. I also like the variety of skill levels presented in this collection. I am finding that books with bugs are especially interesting to boys.

  2. My favorite would be the collection of bug books. Butterfly Park looks like a wonderful book and I would love to share it with my students!

  3. The “Struggling Readers: Engaging and Teaching in Grades 3–8” would be an immediately applicable resource.

  4. This upcoming school year I have decided to teach core standards within theme based units- one of the units is bugs
and these would be an excellent addition to the unit.

  5. I am going to nominate a colleague for the ELMERs award. I know the perfect candidate! I would never have known this if it weren’t for this wonderful Mailbox blog. Thank you!
