Cocoa vs. Chocolate

I may be late to the party, but I didn’t realize that hot chocolate and hot cocoa were different things. I just assumed we had two different names for the same tasty, toasty beverage. Apparently hot cocoa is made with cocoa powder, is sweeter, and has a thinner consistency. Hot chocolate is actual chocolate melted in hot milk, making it the rich, dense, and often bittersweet. Yeah, it makes sense, but I never thought about it.

So I went with, “Hot Chocolate Math,” for a feature in the preschool edition of the January Mailbox Magazine. If you are a preschool Gold subscriber, be sure to check it out! You can also go to our website and search for either, “hot chocolate,” or “hot cocoa,” for lots of great activities and printables like those below!
