Celebrating the Season? Eager for Winter Break? Start the Celebration With Freebies & Prizes—Plus Win Two Books!

Are you enjoying seasonal celebrations in your classroom, anticipating winter break, or maybe a little of both? Let’s start the celebration today and keep it going all month long with freebies and chances to win cash, gift cards, and more!

Post a comment to this blog by 11:59 pm EST on December 20, 2015, to tell me which of the freebies and contests below are your favorites. From the comments, I’ll randomly select one lucky teacher to win two books that are perfect for the season. Jingle Bells (Candlewick Press) is a cut-paper edition of the classic song with a pop-up finale. Then Anja finds a friend when she rescues a reindeer baby that later joins Santa’s sled team in The Reindeer Wish (Random House).  (Update: congratulations to Cindy, who is the winner of our prize.)

As your calendar fills with holiday happenings, don’t forget to pencil in other special December dates. Monday is National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, Wright Brothers Day is December 17, and Underdog Day is December 18. I found these dates on my Office Depot OfficeMax school-year calendar. (Don’t have one?  Download it here. It has coupons, facts, and tips too!) Be sure to enter for your chance to win a $2,500 Office Depot OfficeMax gift card for your school or a $500 gift card for you. The deadline is December 31, 2015, so enter here today!

Do you have those dates penciled in? We have book activities to use with these recognitions and more in a free Reader’s Calendar from Disney Publishing Worldwide. Plus you have a chance to win 30 copies of the book of the month for your grade level. The picks for this month are Today I Will Fly! (read it on Wright Brothers Day), Clementine, and Star Wars: A New Hope—The Princess, the Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy.

Time to celebrate your creativity for a chance to win. In the Creative Storm Video Contest, you prepare a short video to share your clever insight to teach any concept. There are prizes for teachers, students, and a collaboration of teachers and students. Get the details here. Hurry; the deadline to enter is December 18, 2015!

  1. I liked the Office Max and the Disney Publishing contests. They also both had really nice calendars that you could download and use in your classroom. Great Resources! Thank you for all of these ideas.

  2. I know my second grade students would LOVE the Holiday picture books! Thanks so much for the great ideas and resources…so very helpful!

  3. Jingle Bells and The Reindeer Wish are wonderful pieces of literature for my classroom library. Disney and Office Depot are such supporters to teachers.

  4. Lingo Jingo looks like a great resource for our ESL/ELL learners.

If I was better with creating video content Creative Storm contest would be the winner for me this month.

So Jingo Lingo wins this month but Creative Storm has me thinking.

  5. I love Christmas. My favorite movie is Prancer. I just discovered there is a book to go with the movie. So, The Reindeer Wish would be a perfect compliment to Prancer… what if you found a baby reindeer in the woods as a writing prompt and I would sprinkle in some social studies and science lessons on reindeer as well.
