In elementary school, my favorite class was art. I fancied myself an artsy little kid, and outside of school, I loved to spend my time drawing. So in an art class (or a music class), I could feel success in a way that I couldn’t in, say, a math class. (I pretty much have to remove a sock to count to 11.) These classes gave me something very important: self esteem. And without those feelings of joy and success, what’s the whole point of these lives of ours anyway?
Check out this satire article by The Onion that pokes fun at the lack of art education in schools. I waffled between being horrified and snickering at their cleverness. It’s nice that they’re poking at the sheer wrongness of some educational decisions.
