I ran across an article about a sculpture of Knuffle Bunny unveiled at a library in the Brooklyn neighborhood where the story is set. How fun! I want to go there!
That got me curious: What book character do you think deserves a sculpture in your town? Share a comment at this blog, and you’ll have a chance to win Dinosaur Atlas: Amazing Facts, Fold-Out Maps and Life-Size Fossils (Lonely Planet Kids). Submit your comment by Thursday, January 30, to be entered in our random drawing. Congratulations to our lucky winner Kim King!
Once you’ve done that, carve out a few minutes to take a peek at these big-time fun language-arts–related freebies:

I’d love to see statues in honor of Amelia Bedelia around my town. Amelia putting powder on the furniture, Amelia doing drawings of drapes, Amelia making a cake full of “dates”; dreaming up what they’re doing would be so much fun!

I would love to see Cat in the Hat statues around my town. These books sparked a love for reading when I was a child and they continue to delight young children today.
I would like to see Matilda from Roald Dahl. I love her spirit and her ability to overcome adversity.
I would like to see a statue of the duck in “Click, Clack, Moo!
Definitely the characters in Eric Carles books. The Hungry caterpillar and then that beautiful butterfly I love his books. And if we can name extra Pete the Cat.
Since our town and school is surrounded by farms, my class adores the Click, Clack, Moo series. It would be great to have the animals and Farmer Brown scattered throughout out the historic down town.
Because of the wintery weather and the need for mittens in my part of the world, I would vote to have Bear from Jan Brett’s The Mitten. Besides, bears are my most favorite animal.
Frog and Toad. They find a way to connect. We have a lovely ciurtysrd. They would fit right in!
The gingerbread man- kids would always remember their kindergarten experience.
Our school garden should have a sculpture of The Lorax. It would be a remindwr if the need to maintain green spaces for our children.

I live in Tucson and I would like to see a monument to Coyote the trickster, who always seems to end up tricked.
Little Bear. He is so dear and endearing.
Harry The Dirty Dog. . .he is such a free spirit!
SO many ideas! My brain first said Aslan (from the Chronicles of Narnia) to remind us that there is always Someone watching out for us, then I thought The Lorax, to remind us to take care of the earth. THEN I saw the suggestion for Matilda to encourage us to believe in ourselves, even when we don’t think others do. Maybe just a wonderful variety scattered all around town 🙂
One of my favorite books from the local author, Chris Van Dusen, is The Circus Ship. One of the illustrations is of all the circus animals hiding in the scenery. I would love it if we could have circus animal hiding on our elementary school campus!
We have sooooo many school bus riders, and the students love Mo Willem’s Pigeon, so I think it would be cute to have a Pigeon statue.
Clifford the Big Red Dog would be great!
Little Bear
Max and the Wild Things……
That’s who I teach EVERY day! =0)
Frog and Toad jump to mind (pun intended). I love that they’re such good friends, always looking out for one another. There’s an innocence in their stories that I find very touching.
I would donate money to see a sculpture of Tom Fitzgerald put up outside of my local elementary school! To me, the most underappreciated illustrations by Mercer Mayer.
The Great Brain Books by John Fitzgerald
I would love to see a series of sculptures for The Giving Tree. This was always one of my favorite books. I just love the message of the book.
Peter Rabbit
