B is for books, D is for DVDs, H is for Halloween mini erasers (which make great manipulatives), and M is for markers. Does this sound like a fab First Friday Giveaway? I think so!

To enter for a chance to win this fun collection of goodies, leave your answer to the following question right here on the blog no later than midnight, Sunday, September 15.

If you had not chosen to teach, what might you have chosen to do instead?

Hope your school year is off to a fab start!

  1. Well, my first career choice was being in the medical field and second choice was to be a teacher. I was fortunate enough to do both. I was in the medical field specializing in oncology for 15 years and then early childhood education for 13 years. I now teach preschoolers. In addition, I teach Spanish and music.

  2. If you had asked 5 year old me what I wanted to be when I grew up, you would have heard “Princess Lawyer”, but now if you ask me, I can’t see myself being anything but a teacher. In a world where I couldn’t teach, I think librarian would be cool because books are amazing!

  3. Can’t say I’ve ever thought of any other profession. But when I was much younger I thought being a professional soccer player would be cool!

  4. I had a few other options that crossed my mind. a nurse, a beautician, or a psychiatrist. Hmmm… I love being a Kindergarten teacher!

  5. I would have probably been a librarian, because I LOVE books. I learned to read when I was 4 years old with Dr. Seuss books, and I credit Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel) with being the reason that I love books so much. He’s still my favorite author. My grandfather even knew how much I loved books. He left instructions for me to be given his collection of amazingly old books when he passed away, one gigantic Bible in the collection was 200 years old when I got it. I can’t even go to the grocery store without looking at the books they are selling. And, when I taught Remedial Reading, my love of reading was apparently contagious, because my students started bringing books they were reading at home to class to share with each other.

  6. I wanted to be a veterinarian. But thought I would have a hard time falling in love with all the animals and bringing to many home. Now I fall in love with my students and spend way too much on them to make sure they experience the most I can give them.

  7. I’ve always wanted to open a book store specializing in children’s books. If you’ve ever seen the movie “You’ve Got Mail”, Kathleen Kelly’s store is my dream.

  8. A baker or something in the culinary artz world i was going for school for it in college Whe i got a job for the summer as a teacher’s aide I loved it so much I never went back that fall for culinary arts but rather stayed working as an assistant teacher and taking classes at a different College early childhood. I’ve been a teacher now for over 25 years and don’t regret a single day.

  9. I started my life and other career which was construction project management. I then changed careers and choose teaching!

  10. All through school I told my teachers I wanted to be an astronomer and had to explain that I wanted to study the stars, not tell people their horoscopes, lol; I am a huge Star Trek fan! I have worked in finance and IT in the past…but I love being a teacher.

  11. I would love to be a photographer! I love being able to capture moments that will never happen in that exact same way again. Memories produced into a picture!

  12. The funny thing is, is that I never had a backup. I’ve wanted to be a teacher since I was two years old. However, if I followed my 13 year old dreams, I would have wanted to be a singer opening up for the Backstreet Boys. ????????

  13. I’ve always wanted to be at a teacher. Dont know what else I would be. It probably would have something to do with working with kids.

  14. I was in banking! Might still be there today, but teaching as a school librarian was my true calling! 22 years and two National Board Certifications later, I can’t imagine anything else!

  15. I originally was going to school for law. When I was young I thought I wanted to be a politician. Phew. Dodged a big one there. Lol

  16. Always wanted to teach. As I prepare for retirement, I am starting to think what comes next. I would have to say that I would love to write. I’m not sure what, but that is what would come next. 🙂
