Deciding who and what to write about can be daunting for students…and adults as well. (An aside: I’m married to a writer and I hear him muttering a lot in his office.) Various graphic organizers can be a big help for students when planning narratives—and we have tons of them on our website! After a quick search, I think I’ve found my favorite!
Check out this Character Planner. It can be used in a couple of different ways. Have students decorate and label each person outline to create a cast of characters they can choose from when writing. This is what I’ve done with my copy of the organizer above. You can also create the characters one at a time as described by the text on our website.
