  1. I first became a preschool teacher to home school my children.
I am so fascinated by the growth and development of children that I continue to teach.
I also want children in preschool to be able to learn through play!

  2. I became a teacher because it’s all I’ve wanted to do since I was very young! I continue to be a teacher because I love supporting students and helping them learn new things!

  3. To home school my kids. I found that I love it, which I wasn’t sure I would. It feels like an extension of play at the best of times!

  4. I became a teacher because when I was 9 years old, I had a younger sister who was Downs Syndrome. She had a lot of medical issues as well and at the age of 5 she lost her hearing due to Spinal Meningitis. I would spend time with her and her support teachers learning sign language and how to help her communicate and learn basic concepts – I admired all of the dedicated teachers who worked with her and decided that being a teacher was my dream job.

  5. I became a teacher because I wanted to know I was making a difference EVERY day and every day would be different.

  6. Before becoming a teacher, I worked in the medical profession for 15 years- both rewarding careers! I became a teacher (my next passion) to make a difference in the lives of as many children as I can with visible results. And to improve the quality of education and to give back to my community by my desire to help those around me.

  7. I became a teacher to help children learn that had difficulties. As a first grader I had problems decoding words. Could not hear the vowel sounds.

  8. I love teaching children new things and watching them grow. I want to make a difference in their lives.

  9. I had a phenomenal 3rd grade teacher back in the 1980’s. She was the first teacher to read to us chapter books every single day. And not just any books but books like A wrinkle in time and The hobbit. She was so inspiring to me. Anytime I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up I would say I want to be like Mrs B. She never treated us as little kids but as “equals” and that was huge. Needless to say I’ve been teaching now since 2001 and I still find her inspiring. And yes even though I am a PreK teacher I make it a point to read a chapter book to my classroom everyday.

  10. I became a teacher because I love kids and that aha moment when they get it. Did I think I would be doing 30 years later nope but I love it

  11. I became a teacher because I love working with children. I love watching their reaction when something they’ve learned clicks. Young children love learning and love teaching them.

  12. I became an early childhood teacher, because I wanted to make a difference in the foundation of their education.

  13. I loved my first grade teacher so much that I think I became a teacher because I wanted to be just like her.

  14. I became a teacher because I’ve always loved working with children and wanted to be a positive influence.

  15. I became a teacher because I wanted to spend my life’s work with children and helping them to become who they are meant to be! I also wanted to be a part of the learning process in a child’s life.

  16. It was always my plan to teach, but also because I love the look on their faces when they get something new. And the happy morning hugs!

  17. My 9th grade English teacher Mrs. Donnelly was awesome and made learning fun and I just knew I wanted to be a teacher just like her.

  18. I became a teacher bc I had two that really touched my life…..one was my K teacher who helped me through K when I was in a body cast (ironically I teach K too!) and the other was a fifth grade teacher who helped me through the hardships of middle school. Sadly I didn’t realize all he had done for me (although he was always a favorite of mine) until I was in 9th grade and was pulled out of class to be to,d he had unexpectedly passed away. I guess others saw the impact he had on me and knew I would take it hard. I think about both of them still so much to this day!

  19. There are many reasons I became a teacher. Since the age of 5 years old, I have wanted to be a teacher. According to my mother, I saved my childhood books so that I could read them to my class. That dream/ wish never went away! Add to this, I love children, have a way with them (been called the “kid whisperer for decades) and love to make a difference. I’ve been a teacher for 20+ years!

  20. I have always wanted to be a teacher and after I graduated from high school I git a job as a para. The teachers that I worked with talked me into going to school to be a teacher. I have been a teacher ever since and I absolutely love it!!!❤️

  21. I love learning and sharing the love of learning with children. I love the relationships that I get to develop with them.

  22. I became a teacher because I loved playing school with Grandpa Louis when I was about 3 years old. Grandpa was teaching me and brother George to speak Slovak. I told him when I grew up that’s what I was going to be. It took me a while but I have a Masters in Teaching Special Education Teacher. I will receive an Associate in Early Childhood on May 11th.

  23. I became a teacher because I was inspired by a teacher of my own way back in 3rd grade. Her excitement for learning and ability to make us laugh made me realize that learning is fun! After 18 years of teaching, I still think of that teacher often and aim to be just like her day after day. Yes, the education field keeps changing, but my love of learning and caring about kids doesn’t. I only hope that I can have the same impact on some of my own students.

  24. Because my mother thought it was right for me. I wanted to be a lawyer. I’ve stayed a teacher because I love working with my students and I am a lifelong learner. What better place to keep learning? Learning how to bring out each child’s true potential day by day.

  25. I became o teacher because I love learning so much, I wanted to share that joy with the next generation, so I try to find creative and fun ways to make learning fun.

  26. I became a teacher to help children learn to read. I’ve worked with 3 grade levels and I have found my grade that is the best! (2nd grade)

  27. I became a teacher because I took an elective in college and the minute I walked into the school library to read to a group of kids, I felt like I was at home. Having those kids get excited about reading is why I am a reading specialist today – I want to get even those kids who struggle to get excited about reading and love books like I do.

  28. I became a teacher because I was inspired by my wonderful 3rd grade teacher. After that year I just knew it was what I was supposed to do!

  29. It happen based on witnessing some skills in students not developed at an early age. Start teaching them in their early years will gradually help the student become a great adult.

  30. I became a teacher because I have a soft.spot in my heart for children. They are little people who deserve to be taught in way that will make a difference in there lives!!

  31. I was born for this! I have a hard time turning my “teacher” off and I would so much rather be in a room filled with children than adults. They are honest, funny, caring, and maybe, just maybe, I can help at least a few to continue being amazing all their lives.

  32. I became a teacher because several of my teachers impacted me so much and inspired me to try to make a difference for children.

  33. I’ve wanted to become a teacher since I was 8 years old and never wavered from that dream. Ten years in, and I still love learning from the kids and teaching them a few things!

  34. I became a teacher when I realized that being around children brought me great joy. I started out babysitting at a young age and I quickly saw how much fun I had playing with the children. When I took other jobs as a server or sales clerk during high school, I would often dread going to work. One summer I worked as an assistant at a summer camp for school aged children and I loved each day! I realized there was no other job for me.

  35. I became a teacher because I’m a firm believer in EDUCATION and I knew that I wanted to make a difference in a child’s life! I have A LOT of love to give along with COMPASSION and most importantly PATIENCE!!!!! No matter what I’m going through in my personal life I know when I walk through those doors those children are always there to put a smile on my face and a hug when I know I really need one!!! Being a teacher is the GREATEST GIFT OF ALL and I wouldn’t trade it for ANYTHING!!!!

  36. The reason I became a teacher is because the men and women my students become is much more important than a test score. I want them to know they matter and have a voice.

  37. I became a teacher because I knew that is what I was supposed to be since I was in 5th grade. I love watching my students grow every day.

  38. My older brother said I was born to be a teacher ever since he can remember because I would set up my chalkboard and play school with my dolls and stuffed animals all the time.
Yes, I have been a teacher for 43 years and still love it.

  39. I became a teacher because I felt it was my calling. I have always loved to help people especially kids. I have felt a strong connection with kids and love their zest for life. They gave me the inspiration to help others and in return, I receive the ultimate reward, to know that I help guide them in their academic journey and hopefully inspire them to inspire others and give of themselves for others. Pay it forward!

  40. I became a teacher because I love children! I stay a teacher because I see the difference I am making in their lives!

  41. When I first started it was for different reasons. But as I have worked with the children it’s because I love to continue to learn. Not only do we teach them but they have taught me so many things throughout the years.

  42. I became a teacher because it was the only thing I ever wanted to do. I spent my childhood playing school!

  43. I teach because our children will be our leaders and I want them to be compassionate, confident, and ready to take on anything in their journeys.

  44. I became a teacher because I like seeing children grow. The drastic changes they make from the beginning of the year to the end is just amazing, I think they tend to surprise theirselves by what they have accomplished. I also love seeing the look on their faces when a set skill is being taught and one day he/she comes to you to say “look I did it”, that when you can tell your self job well done.

  45. I know how this is going to sound but it is the truth. Teaching is my second career. I left a pretty lucrative position in marketing and operations to return to school, take on my first student loan after getting a bachelor’s and masters with no loans. I had lost my pep, I had no more love for what I was doing and I was flat. My first classroom experience was teaching night school in alternative education as a sub. Very scary but totally fulfilling. I knew then that High School was not at all my calling but teaching was my calling and I loved working with the little kids in my son’s Kindergarten room at the time. It was all about bringing the lesson to life and I loved it. I graduated with my teaching certification in 2007 at the beginning of our horrible recession and managed to teach every year since. I’ve taught in catholic schools, charter schools and worked my way to public schools and I love it. This is where I belong and not because the pay is good (don’t laugh) or the job easy – hardest job I have every had outside of being a parent – but I love developing the lesson. It would truly be more fun without standardized testing but even that has not dulled my spirit.
I told you this would be cliche but it is the truth and I have been at it now for over 10 years in many capacities and still loving what I do. My husband is always asking it I regret swapping the boardroom for the classroom and I always say no, and I teach some tough kids and I may complain at times but behind the complaints their is passion to do the best for my kids. That is why I became a teacher.

  46. I became a teacher because I love working with kids. When my triplets were in elementary school, I substituted in their school and was told by the principal that I was a natural at teaching. I went back to school and got my teaching degree.

  47. Honestly, I do not know the exact reason I became a teacher. I do know that I was playing teacher before I started school. I would take my sister’s school work and become a “teacher” with all of my stuffed animals. So I guess to answer this question: I was born to be a teacher. I love what I do still with all of my heart and do not regret the last 24 years!

  48. I became a teacher because I have always enjoyed working with and teaching younger kids. I still love it!

  49. The first reason I became a teacher is because I wanted to follow in my mom’s footsteps. I always looked up to my mom; she was truly my hero. She taught for over 30 years, even after she was diagnosed with cancer. She was always so strong and passionate, and I wanted to be just like her. Now that she is gone, every day I go to teach my students, I think, “How can I make my mom proud today? How can I carry on her legacy?” She made such a positive difference in so many students’ lives. I only hope that I can accomplish a portion of what she was able to during her life. My students give me continued hope every day, along with the joy of making my mom proud.

  50. I became a teacher because I thought I could change the world! I left a cushy Civil Service job to work with kids. While I worked in Civil Service, I volunteered to read and work with kids at a partner school, fell in love with it, and went back to school in my 30’s to become a teacher. I still think I can change the world – one kid at a time!

  51. I have always known I would be a teacher, even as a child. Combined with my love of art, becoming an art teacher became my dream. I now work at a public fine arts elementary campus (magnet school) and I am excited about coming to school every day. My students love art and they love me. The feeling is mutual. I “heart” art and my awesome students.

  52. I decided when I was in second grade that I wanted to be a teacher. My love of learning, and passion for helping others continued to grow as I grew. After 34 years in the profession my enthusiasm for school has not diminished. I love my job, and I love my students!

  53. I always knew that I wanted to do something that made a difference in this world. As a teacher I am able to not only teach children but also hope to make an impact on their families by being their child’s first teacher. I chose to become a Pre-K teacher!!

  54. I became a teacher because I love the fun energy kid have. It’s so infectious that it puts me in a fun, goofy mood. They make me so happy!

  55. My high school leadership teacher encouraged me to job shadow a teacher because I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do. He was positive it would be a perfect fit. Here I am, 7 years later, enjoying what I love.

  56. As tough as teaching can be, working with children is what I was born to do. Building those relationships, seeing the knowledge start to click and the lightbulb go off, and building a love of reading are all reasons I became a media specialist.

  57. I became a teacher because education is the one thing no one can ever take away from you and I wanted to give kids that power.

  58. My 3rd grade teacher brought me out of my shell and made me love school. I realized that I wanted to be that person to make a difference in a students life.

  59. I’ve wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl. I changed my major from education to psychology halfway through college because I “fell in love with psychology”. I graduated, got a job in the psych field and hated every minute of it. Ended up teaching 7 years later, and love every minute of it. I love connecting with kids and their families … and actually making a difference!!

  60. I have always enjoyed all facets of education. I started out educating youth at a local zoo while in college and kept doing that after graduation. I transitioned into the classroom about 10 years later as I wanted to connect with students and families on a different level. I just really enjoy the process of teaching and love seeing the students enjoy learning, especially in those “a-ha” moments!!!

  61. I wanted to be a teacher since I was in the 3rd grade. I have always wanted to help kids learn and be successful.

  62. I became a teacher because I wanted my child to learn at her own pace and to focus on her interests.

  63. I became a teacher because I love learning and want to impart that love into the next generation of learners.

  64. I became a teacher because my first grade teacher inspired me to do so. She had a passion for creating an environment where every child enjoyed learning, she showed each child she cared about them, and made learning fun. I would go back to her classroom every year and after high school we became even closer. Now as a teacher and a mother to a special needs child I knew that teaching was where I always belonged and it has helped me advocate for my son’s needs and also my students.

  65. I became a teacher to give a voice to students without one. To help them develop their voice, whether it be the quiet, sky child, the non-speaking, or the timid. I work with preschoolers of mixed abilities .

  66. I became a teacher because children always brought me joy and I realized that it was my true calling. I love helping them and watching them grow. They delight me every single day and I have been teaching now for 27 years.

  67. I became a teacher because my early childhood years were not actually what the outside world thought they were. Everything looked fine to them, but in actuality I was abused in a variety of ways. Because I was a child, I could not stand up for myself, and no one else did. As a result I felt lonely, unheard, misunderstood, and deserving of the abuse. When I got older I decided that all children should feel loved and accepted, and that I could do that best by becoming a tesacher.

  68. I first became a teacher to my homeschooled children because I wanted to spend every possible minute with them, helping them achieve their dreams. Now I teach in a traditional classroom because I want to make a difference in the lives of children, even if it’s only one child at a time.

  69. I first became a teacher to my home schooled children because I wanted to spend every possible minute with them, helping them achieve their dreams. Now I teach in a traditional classroom because I want to make a difference in the lives of children, even if it’s only one child at a time.

  70. I became a teacher because I wanted to share my love of learning with my students, to make a positive impact in someone’s life, and it was something I had always dreamed of doing!

  71. I became a teacher because my first grade teacher had a student return to her class who had just become a teacher because of the effect she had on her life. I still remember thinking, “I want to be that difference maker to someone.” At age 7. I have now been teaching 10 years and know I have made a difference to many because of the relationship I build with each and every student, even ones not in my class. They are all a part of who I am as a teacher!

  72. I wanted to be a child psychologist then realized I wanted to work with so many more kids than a few at a time. I fell into early childhood education, and loved it so much I went and got my masters in it. Working with kids and families is an amazing feeling.

  73. I am from a large family of nine children. We always helped each other. My parents taught us by example and I believe it’s in my blood. Ever since I began babysitting at age ten, I have always been a helper. I believe teaching young children establishes their foundation for a life time of learning and being productive citizens of our communities.

  74. I became a teacher when i decided nursing wasn’t for me. Now I am a teacher because I enjoy the children and each year brings something new. Never a dull moment!
