It Takes a Team

One of the things The Mailbox editors love to talk about is schools. We talk about the schools we taught in, the schools our kids attend, and the schools we attended as children. Of course we're school-obsessed: look at our choice of profession!

Fun for Teachers Too

In my opinion, one of teaching’s best perks is the chance to learn new things. How great is it, when planning or teaching a lesson, to discover a fabulous new book or make a connection to a previously learned fact? Better still, how fun is it to get involved with students’ learning and have a new experience yourself?

First-Year Teachers

I don’t have to tell you what a busy, exciting time of year this is. But it is an especially thrilling time for first-year teachers. My first year gave me some of the most wonderful, terrifying, and humorous memories of my life! This is such an important topic that I’ve decided to run a short series aimed at first-year teachers, with memories and tips from those of us who've been there. Recipe Request

A few weeks ago, we had a potluck here at work. I made one of my favorite go-to snacks, green chile pinwheels. At the end of the day, he brought home the empty plate and two requests for the recipe.

Yesterday was a great day. Fellow editor Krystle Jones was working on a reproducible partner game for The Mailbox® magazine, Intermediate. We had talked over the idea and were both sure it was going to be great. Then, when Krystle started working on it, several issues popped up. So we sat down to problem-solve. Boy! We hit one wall after another. Several times, we just looked at each other wondering if there was a solution.

Workshop Chatter

Posted by Diane Badden on 20 Apr 2009 | Posted in: Professional Development, Relationships and Team Building

All of a sudden I have a zillion workshop questions! A few days ago I had a wonderful workshop experience, and it got me wondering… How many workshops do teachers attend in a normal school year? What do teachers enjoy most about workshops? Do they have favorite workshop topics? Do they have favorite types of workshops?

Do Teachers + Food = Better Relationships?

Our team of editors has a birthday tradition. Whenever a birthday rolls around, we treat the birthday girl to lunch. It’s a fun way to enjoy a good meal and good company, while leaving shop talk back at work. The folks on our floor meet periodically in the break room for what basically turn out to be mini food marathons.
