I’m not sure who had the bright idea of using a ten frame for math instruction. Whoever it was deserves rousing applause, ample pats on the back, and a collective “Yahoo for you!” from educators. Not only is the ten frame a nifty and versatile math tool, it’s also super-duper easy to make. So here’s what I’m thinking readers of this blog are eager to know (and I am too)! How do you use ten frames in your classroom?

I teach preschool -4 year olds. I use them with a manipulative to achieve different ways to make ten - counting to ten or whatever number and one to one correspondence - which is were my kiddos seem to be having a little trouble. I use table scatter that can be found at walmart or target or christmas tree shops - all kinds of places - they fit the theme etc. I also use mini erasers as manipulatives too. Love them!
