I’m back! And just like I promised, I’ve cooked up a little giveaway for Teacher Appreciation Week. I think it’s pretty cool! Trust me, my first giveaway proposal was to send three of us on a tropical getaway. (That would be you, a teaching colleague of yours, and little ol’ me. :) ) As you can imagine, that proposal was received with thunderous laughter. But what the heck, I’m all about asking!

Honestly, this giveaway is just the frosting on the cake. The real purpose of this blog post is to offer a creative way for you to give a heartfelt shout-out to a teaching colleague. When you think back over the past school year, who was it that continually inspired you to do your best? Which teaching colleague listened to your concerns and your successes? Who was it that helped you better understand the way in which kids learn or added to your insight about the ins and outs of classroom management?

In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, I invite you to leave a comment appreciating one of your teaching colleagues! Who knows—maybe one of your colleagues will give you a shout-out too. And to show our appreciation, we’ll award one lucky commenter two $20 gift certificates for The Mailbox —that’s one for the winner to use and one for her to give to her Teacher of the Year. All commenters on this post through May 20 will be entered in the drawing.

Thank you for all you do! Happy commenting!

Diane

Congratulations to Bette Vaughan, winner of our drawing!

I just started as a SPED teacher in April and have had amazing support from the RTI, 2nd and 3rd grade teachers. Thank you for making my transition easy!

I would not have any sanity left this year if it weren’t for Rae, my grade-level special education teacher. I arrived at my current school from a different state, teaching a new-to-me grade, and she helped me navigate the jargon and acronyms of new SPED guidelines, even while they were changing before our eyes. She was one of the first people to stick her head in the door and welcome me to the school, and listened and offered advice when I felt like a rat stuck in a maze. Budget cuts may not allow us to work together next year, but I’ll always be thankful for you, Rae.

I have a wonderful team teacher. Darcie has helped me so much over the past few months. I took over this job in December and she has been right there for me all the time. Thank you Darcie for all of your support.

My helper is my whole team. We have seven people who teach grade 4. We have some older, some younger and some MEN! We get along well and trade ideas. We team plan once a week and share what we are doing. If we like another’s ideas, we copy. If not, we don’t worry about it. Works out well!

I am very grateful for each of my colleagues on our kindergarten team. They all have helped me in the three years I have been on their team. One that especially stands out is Mrs. Whoolery. She is ALWAYS willing to lend a hand, to share ideas, to share a smile with, to laugh with, to ask me if I want to have lunch with her and other colleagues when we go occasionally go off-site. She will always be there when I need a favor or need some advice. She is a wonderful colleague who is also a great friend!

This year I had to unexpectedly switch from kindergarten to first grade at my school due to enrollment. This is my only my second year of teaching in the County. I was overwhelmed. Luckily, I have 2 of the best team mates in the world. Mrs. Winter and Ms. Trabert have given me so much help and support. I gained confidence and 2 new friends. Thanks!

I left my comment on the Bingo blog by mistake. So, let me say again: I have the BEST team of teachers on my team!

I would like to thank Mrs. V for all of your help and support. When I am having a rough moment in the classroom, I know I can count on you to step in and help out. When I am in need of a resource, I know all I need to do is visit your classroom. Thank you for all of the great ideas you have shared and all of the times you have given me support in one way or another. You are the best!

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to Stephani Gentry. This was my first year teaching, and she guided me through the trenches like a champ. Not to mention she really knows her way around all the SPED paperwork! Without her, I just might have walked out of my classroom. Ok, maybe nothing that drastic, but she is AWESOME!
