I recently started taking a drawing and painting class. Now let me be clear—I have reasonable fine-motor skills, but no one is going to confuse my work with Monet’s anytime soon. During my first class, I sketched a still life of a basket of pears. I like to think that my sketch is recognizable as a basket of pears to people other than myself. Even if it isn’t, I’m quite pleased that I’m doing something fun and creative outside of work.

Work can often take up a big chunk of our lives. If I didn’t put forth the effort, I could easily spend an entire week just working, eating, and sleeping. But that would leave me vaguely unsatisfied. What hobbies do you have? What do you do for “me” time? Painting? Needlework? Scrapbooking? Beading? Baking? Karate? Let me know. I’m always looking for some good creative options.

Your blog cohost,
Kim

I love scrapbooking as well. I bring it into my classroom all the time. I have the Cricut and I use it to make decorations for the classroom for every season.

I am a quilter. I have been quilting since I am 18 years old. My mother and grandmother also quilt so I guess that’s where the interest came from.
Quilting is definitely my way to relax! After a long day or a rough week, you can always find me by the sewing machine, working on something. I also belong to a quilt group. There are 6 of us who get together every 2 weeks for the afternoon and work on various projects. It is an awesome way to get inspired and share interesting ideas. We also get away at least twice a year for a quilt retreat. It is nice to get away from it all, have a little “me” time, and do something I love with great friends! I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have my quilting!!

I love to scrapbook! I have even brought some of it into my classroom. We make thank you cards in December for them to use. In Feb. we usually make cards to send to the local children’s hospital. I take lots of pictures as well! I also write children’s stories. Sometimes we read or illustrate some in class.
