I’ve been planning for the next school year. And, well, the spreadsheet format I’m using is a little tricky. So I’ve been learning some new processes, and I’m here to report—it has not been easy. I started out with a little surprise and curiosity. (”Oh, I don’t think I know how to do that, hmmmm…”) Next, I hit the gentle slope of exploring the new skill. (”Yes! I’m learning something new, and it makes sense!”) Then before I knew it–BAM!–I hit the wall! (”What? I thought…”) Anyway, I know I’ll figure it out, and then I’ll happily tuck this new skill into my bag of tricks. In the meantime, however, I’ve got some climbing to do!

Congratulations to Linda S. of Rio Rancho, NM! She is the winner of a copy of the Social Skills for Little Learners book.

It is a good reminder for “us teachers” to have to go through the learning processes. It reminds us that we all have our different learning processes. So I just remind myself to apply what I have learned during my joy or frustration to my classroom kids.

Sometimes when I am learning something new, I relate the process to what my students must be going through when I introduce something that is unfamiliar to them. They may be curious, but frustrated because they don’t know where to begin. In which case they may back away from it (I sometimes do this). Some children may love a challenge and keep trying and experimenting (I am sometimes very determined to persevere until I master something that I really want to learn). I love to see my students confident and engaged when they achieve success (it’s a good feeling!). When I work with my preschoolers I try to think of the different processes I go through to learn a new skill. Then I can patiently guide each child to achieve success and, thus, confidence in themselves!

Learning is such an exciting and frustrating process at times. Especially when it comes to technology! You’re bag of tricks will be overflowing soon.
    Thanks for the chuckle..
