How Did You Meet Us?

| During my second year of teaching, I was across the hall from an incredible teacher named Ms. Dunn. Ms. Dunn shared so many wonderful teacher secrets with me! I couldn’t wait to see what she had planned each day. Her students were always engaged in the best learning games, and everything in her room was so organized. People stopped by to see her colorful wall displays, and she knew all kinds of tips and shortcuts. After several months of copying what she was doing, I was convinced that she was the smartest teacher ever! I was surprised when she handed me an issue of The Mailbox® magazine. “Take this,” she said. “The ideas are in here.” | ![]() |
Well, I did take that issue and I read it from cover to cover. After I marked all of the ideas I wanted to use with sticky notes, I knew I had to get my own subscription. Later, I subscribed to Teacher’s Helper® magazine, too. I was really hooked! It wasn’t long before I was submitting my own ideas to the magazine and using the gift certificates to buy other Mailbox products. And, I was recommending the magazines to all the new teachers I worked with!
Hey, this makes me curious: how were you introduced to The Mailbox family? I’d love to know. Leave a comment and tell me your story—I’m eager to hear from you!
All the best,
Hope

I first came across a bunch of Mailbox Magazines for all grades at a staffroom when I was supply teaching. I looked through all of the ideas and immediately subscribed once I got home. I only wish that there was also a Canadian version of the Mailbox as some lesson are American based.
I discovered Mailbox at a local teacher’s supply store. As a parent I am always pushing education even though my child is only 2. I picked up a Preschool level and was very impressed. I take him through many of the activities even if I have to alter them a little. I figure it never hurts to introduce him to concepts. He loves it because he always likes doing activities with mama.
When I opened my Daycare in July of 2004, I had eight little preschoolers running around, and I needed something to help me entertain them, but teach them at the same time. When I found the Mailbox books in a local teacher’s store (Ann’s ) I decided to buy an issue and just check it out. Now in 2009 I not only subcribe to the preschool issues I now also use the Kindergarten issues also. I love you guys!!! Keep up the good work you all make my day alot easier. THANKS
I discovered Mailbox in a learning resource magazine while I was student teaching and subscribed to several early grades since I was not sure what grade I would definitely end up teaching. It has been the best resource to turn to during my three years teaching Pre-K! I use the pre-k and K editions to meet the different academic levels in my class. I love how the activities and templates can be adapted to teach a wide range of learning concepts. Truly pleased!
I began using Mailbox magazines my first year teaching. I enjoy the variety of activites. My favorite activites are the Mailbox centers books. The centers are engaging for the students and I love the extra sheets for practice.
I was first introduced to Mailbox by our librarian. She subscribed to it and the teachers were free to check it out and then return it when you’re finished with it. I get so many great ideas from the magazines! Every 2 years our librarian puts the old issues up for grabs and I take advantage of it. I have plenty of Mailbox magazines and I organize them by the month. I refer to them often!
One of the teachers was buying her own copy of the magazine. I saw it and knew all the teachers needed their grade level magazine. I have ordered them for our school ever since. And since we only have one class of each grade… there isn’t much fighting over the issues. At the most three teachers share an issue.
I was introduced to Mailbox the year I began teaching in 1991 by my mentor teacher. She didn’t use everypage, but she did use many ideas. She always liked to take an idea and make it her own. So that is how I learned to take your ideas and expand them or alter them to make them my own. It seems when I do that, then I don’t forget where that cute activity was or leave it in a file only to be discovered again and later forgotten.
I met Mailbox Magazine at my local library. I love the library!
When I left the teacher’s assistant world for my a class of my own, one of my very good friends (and fellow colleague) gave me a subscription. I’ve been hooked every since!
I first noticed the Mailbox in the teacher’s closet on my first day working in the preschool. Then, I found MORE at the teachers store! I was hooked!
A colleague had the magazine many years ago. I have been subscribed ever since. Although I have taught many grades since I first got the magazine, one thing is consistent and that I can always find something useful, helpful and fun in the magazine. A big THANKS to you!
