How Did You Meet Us?

| During my second year of teaching, I was across the hall from an incredible teacher named Ms. Dunn. Ms. Dunn shared so many wonderful teacher secrets with me! I couldn’t wait to see what she had planned each day. Her students were always engaged in the best learning games, and everything in her room was so organized. People stopped by to see her colorful wall displays, and she knew all kinds of tips and shortcuts. After several months of copying what she was doing, I was convinced that she was the smartest teacher ever! I was surprised when she handed me an issue of The Mailbox® magazine. “Take this,” she said. “The ideas are in here.” | ![]() |
Well, I did take that issue and I read it from cover to cover. After I marked all of the ideas I wanted to use with sticky notes, I knew I had to get my own subscription. Later, I subscribed to Teacher’s Helper® magazine, too. I was really hooked! It wasn’t long before I was submitting my own ideas to the magazine and using the gift certificates to buy other Mailbox products. And, I was recommending the magazines to all the new teachers I worked with!
Hey, this makes me curious: how were you introduced to The Mailbox family? I’d love to know. Leave a comment and tell me your story—I’m eager to hear from you!
All the best,
Hope

I am a preschool teacher and my assistant and I absolutely love the ideas that we get from these magazines and books.
One of the teachers I was working with was reading this magazine. She lent it to me and that is when I decided I needed to subscribe to the mailbox. I find the most useful ideas and activities.
I first came across the magazine during my college courses for early childhood - what a lifesaver! With the ideas, etc. in each issue it helped add to my projects and different assignments.
I cannot remember when I first found out about Mailbox, but I too remember as soon as I looked at the magazine I wanted my own copy -the posters in the teachers room copies were always missing. I do however remember about four years ago always wondering where another teacher always got her great practice sheets from. One day I asked her and she showed me her Teachers Helper, now I subscribe to that also.
QUESTION: Is there a kindergarten version of Bookbag, and if so do you find it useful? I have not seen this one.
I ordered Mailbox magazine during my first years of teaching. It was a great help to me. Then after taking time off to be with my children I reentered the teaching force. The first thing I did was order Mailbox and I have been using it every year:) Can’t wait for it to arrive in the mail.
We had Mailbox magazines in our teachers’ lounge for quite awhile, but I really started using it three years ago when I was moved to Preschool. There were several copies in the file cabinet in the Preschool classroom, and I decided I needed to subscribe to it myself to get even more ideas. Mailbox has been a godsend!
I was introduced to Mailbox through my school. They buy a subscription and keep it in the Library for the entire school to check out and use.
When I was in college(2001-2006), we were told we could NOT teach out of the Mailbox Magazine, because it was just arts and crafts and we have to teach the standards. I did some investigating on my own and found Teacher’s Helper, which I thought couldn’t be just arts and crafts. I recived my first issue of Teacher’s Helper and was hooked. I said out loud “HEY! These match the Kansas Standards! What were they talking about?!” I then sent off for my free issue of The Mailbox Magazine, and then shortly after Bookbag too. I am hooked to all the magazines now (they help so much for state testing), and can’t believe I almost passed these valuble resources up because of what I heard in class.
My Language Arts Curriculum professor in college introduced me to Mailbox magazines. I began ordering them in college and have not stopped in my 9 years of teaching!! Thanks Mrs. Schilling!!
I was introduced to mailbox by a teacher when I was doing my student teaching. After 10 years of teaching I still do the same Thanksgiving craft with my students and they always love it. This last year, I had a parent say that she was so glad that we did such cute projects.
I was introduced to The Mailbox Magazine at the very first school I taught at. It was provided to all of the Pre-K teachers and I thought it was the greatest resource to use in my classroom. Like many others, I remember reading from cover to cover and placing post it notes on all the pages of activities I wanted to do in class. The whole book was marked!
That was 9 years ago and I’m still using The Mailbox. I love it!
I have always had a subscription to Mailbox and switched back and forth between the Primary and Intermediate as I have changed grade levels. I think over the years I have found the Intermediate to be the most helpful in the classroom no matter what grade level I’m teaching.
