The Editors Want to Know!

If I could give you a quick glimpse inside the editors’ heads here at The Mailbox® magazine offices, the one question you would see swirling around everyone’s mind is “What do teachers think of THIS issue of The Mailbox?” Our editors love getting feedback from our subscribers. Your comments help us shape the magazines so that they continue to be a useful resource that you will turn to again and again for your classroom needs.
With that said, before we mail out the next issue of each Mailbox, I’m going to ask for your feedback on the current issue of the magazine. First up, the February/March issues. Now that you’ve had a chance to use the ideas and activities in your issue, tell us what you think. What worked for you? What didn’t? What did you love? What would you like to see more of? Whatever is on your mind, we want to hear it!
Please refer to the specific edition (Preschool, Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grades 2-3, or Intermediate) that you are commenting on so that we know exactly what you are talking about.

I would love to see some pages dedicated to 2 year olds in the Preschool magazine. Most activities can be altered or even done as is by my 2 year old or demonstrated by mom but having specific activities to help get him ready for preschool would be great.
I really miss the Song and Rhyme Section of your magazine. (I think that’s what it was called.) I subscribe to the first grade mag. Also, where can I find the “year at a glance” for the teacher’s helper? I’ve searched and searched online and have not been able to find it. Can someone please tell me?
More phonics sorting games please! I loved the bossy r sort in the most recent mailbox issue (First grade June/July 09, I think). These games are great because they can be played by ONE child instead of with a partner or a group. I also like having the games available in color on the companion web site so I can print them out on card stock and not have to worry about ripping the pages from my magazine and then mounting them on something more durable before I laminate.
You used to have 2 pages for Toddler ideas in your Pre-school mailbox. Since I teach one and two-year olds I really do miss those pages. Other then that I love the magazines and have gotten a lot of great ideas out of them. Still trying to figure out how to use the website right, I find it a bit confusing. But I’m sure I’ll get there.
We no longer publish the Learning Center kits that you used to get. However, we have several other learning center products such as Learning Center Collection, Envelope Centers, File Folder Centers, and Mix and Match Games. You can find them all online at The Mailbox Books. Hope you can find something that works for you.
I am quite probably returning to kindergarten after being in upper grades for 8 years. I used to receive a monthly “learning center kit” from The Learning Center, which included Mailbox centers, and manipulatives. I wondered if those are still available. It was a learning center club.

Right now the Mailbox is only published in English. But we know there are many of you who teach ESL students and would love a resource in Spanish.

Hi, My colleagues who teach Dual Immersion Spanish, love The Mailbox. They told me they’d love it even more if there was a Spanish version. Do you have such a version available? If not, do anybody know who does publish a magazine for teachers in Spanish, that’s like The Mailbox?
This would really be a service to those of us who teach in states where we have a significant spanish speaking population!

I love that you have a the monthly planning sheets. My favorite one is the “note” that has different seasonal clipart. I was wondering if you have one like that but says “thank you” I love to fill them out on the computer when parents send in classroom donations but instead of “note” I think it would be nice to say “thank you.”
I subscribe to both the Preschool and Kindergarten issues of Mailbox magazine. I love that in the Kindergarten issue now has downloadable direction cards for the Arts & Crafts section. It is very nice to be able to print off the cards to keep in a file box for easy reference instead of having to flip through the magazine pages. I love that the cards include a picture of the item, the materials needed and the steps in how to make the art item.
I have not noticed the direction cards available in the Preschool edition and am hoping that downloadable direction cards will be available in all future editions of all levels. Thanks!
Beth, there is a leprechaun dust/pudding snack idea on page 60 on the Feb/Mar 2005 Preschool Mailbox. This might be what you are looking for.
The weekly plan sheets can be found in the planning pages section, under the heading “bonus features” on the table of contents page for each issue. The preschool, Kindergarten, and Grade 1 Companions will feature a different weekly planning page for each issue of the magazine. Hope this helps.
I am looking for a poem I used to have about a leprechaun leaving “magic powder” or “magic dust”. You read the poem as you sprinkled the white powder (lime jello) on top of applesauce & watch it turn green. The kids loved it!
I beleive that it was in the mag a few years ago. It also had recipe cards that went along with it. Could you please let me know where I can find it? Thanks
Hi! I love your site! But what ever happened to the WEEKLY PLAN sheet? I remember seeing them in November and I REALY miss them !!! I loved being able to fill out my Weekly Plan Sheet on line and then Printing them. Could we have these back? Thanks for all the ideas! They are fun! - Lois
