Knowing Me, Knowing You

As Hope mentioned in the previous post, several of us here at The Education Center® will be co-hosting this blog. I too am very excited to talk and share ideas with all of you.
Just to give you a better idea of who I am, here is a quick summary. With luck, we’ll have more than just a few things in common.
After teaching in Texas for several years, I joined the team here in 2004. As an editor for Teacher’s Helper and The MAILBOX magazine, I get to use not only my teaching certification in grades 1 through 8, but sometimes my art certification as well. I just love finding new solutions to problems and making your job easier!
In addition to being a former teacher and an editor, I am a wife and mom. I have a three-year-old little boy who likes to keep me on my toes and a husband who sometimes likes to do the same.
Now that I’ve told you a little bit about me, I’d like to know more about you. What grade are you teaching? How long have you been in the classroom? What state are you from? What one word or phrase would you use to describe a good teaching resource?
I can’t wait to hear your answers!

Hi! I just had to place a few words in too. I’ve been teaching for 39 years and I’m still going strong. I have subscribed to the Education Center or bought materials from them since its beginning years of the 70s, when they were tucked in a couple’s garage. I have never stopped using the Education Center’s materials, no matter what grade or subject I’ve been teaching. Thanks for the help and “Thanks for the Memories”.
PS to Ruth Christiansen Congratulations to you and your hard work. My mother received her BS when she was 57, two years before I received mine. We got our Masters together and we taught across the hall in a five-room school for three years. She has always been my mentor! When I think that I’m too old to start something new, I think of my mother. Bless you. I’m sure you are an inspiration to many, adult and student alike!
I am a fifth grade teacher in urban school district of Philadelphia. I have been teaching for 14 years. I have taught in a daycare Kindergarten when I was a single mother finishing up my certification. I have taught in a catholic school with my son attending. I have taught in a suburban school district for awhile. This is my second year and second school that I have taught at in Philly but I will say it has been THE most rewarding experience of my career! Here I am on a Sunday night surfing the mailbox for some more great ideas for my class next week and most especially on the inauguration. My lesson plans would never be complete without at least two or three fabulous ideas from the mailbox! Other collegues keep asking me how I think of these wonderful ideas to support the rigorous instruction and I always tell them…it’s the mailbox. Please continue to keep up the fabulous job!
I am currently teaching at a Head Start Center as a preschool lead teacher. I graduated from a community college with an associate’s degree in early childhood and am loving my new job.
I actually went to college right after high school graduation the first time and couldn’t get it done. Too much fun time and not enough study time - if you know what I mean. I went back to school at 46 years old and 2 1/2 years later I finally have me “dream job.” It just took me a while.
I have two older children, a daughter 22 and a son 15. My daughter will be graduating with the same degree this spring (09) and my son is going to be starting his senior year in high school nest fall. HE is the class of 2010.
After going back to school, and finishing with honors, I am a firm believer that you can do anything that you set your mind to do. I just takes determination and never giving up on your dreams. Mailbox has been an awesome resource - not only while I was in school but also in my teaching. It is worth every penny!
I have been teaching school in Kentucky for 22 years. I teach at the same school that I attended when I was a child. Things have certainly changed though. I teach a 2nd grade class with 13 girls and 4 boys. I am having a great year. I subscribed to The Mailbox the first year that I taught, and have never missed a year since. I don’t think that I could get through the year with the Mailbox and the Teacher’s Helper. Yea Mailbox!
I am a teacher in Perth Western Australia. I have been teaching for 40 years. I love to teach Year one which is like your first grade. I have just become a grandmother for the first time and I am loving that. Teaching is my passion and though semi retired right now I continue to do relief teaching. I use Mailbox for ideas a lot and have a big collection of back copies in my study. How would I describe a good teaching resource in one word — Mailbox!
I’m Cindy from North Carolina. I’m in my 26th year of teaching Pre-K, K, 1st, 2nd, 5th, and music. I’m currently teaching K in a Title I low-income school. I have a great class and I love what I do! I have 2 grown children, 27 & 29, and 4 perfect, marvelous grandkids: 2 boys, 12 & 8, and 2 girls, 4 & 5. I have taught in TN and NC. I attended University of Tennessee (VOLS!) and Memphis State (Tigers!) back when it was called Memphis State! I love The Mailbox resources!
