If practice makes perfect, then here’s the perfect way to practice: Math Practice Pages. This month’s featured book from The Mailbox Books provides lots of practice for the number and operations skills on which your students will likely be tested, but the formats make it more fun than typical textbook practice. Each book has 80 reproducible skill sheets featuring kid-friendly characters and engaging formats to keep students interested.

We know you need to prepare students for end-of-year tests and here’s a way to do it without boring skill and drill! Don’t take my word for it: print the sample pages below and try them out with your students. Then, stop back by and let me know what you think.

If you’ve read previous book features, you know how this works! Each person who comments on this post will be entered in a drawing to win one FREE Math Practice Pages book. I’ll randomly draw one name on December 19 and contact the winner via email.

Congratulations Monica from Star Elementary School. She is the winner of a Math Practice Pages book!

As a special education teacher, I am constantly searching for new and exciting materials for my students. I have fallen in love with the mailbox magazines a co-worker shared with me. I am excited to discover there is a math practice series! job well done!

I love these extra practice pages. They are perfect for my Brainiacs Club. A selection of review activities is posted on the wall each week and a student who completes five of them gets an extra check on his homework chart - making him one step closer to a selection from the treasure box.

Mailbox pages make practicing math fun and kids enjoy working to solve the riddles.

I’m new to first this grade after teaching kindergarten for many years. I’ve just signed up to get the Mailbox First Grade and found these pages. The first grade page that I clicked on had exactly what we are working on right now! I love to have good math centers that improve skills. This is just the ticket.

I have used the mailbox magazines in my classroom for years, it is one of my greatest resources. After viewing the math practice sample page, I feel I would greatly benefit from the magazine.

I teach Pre-K and some of my students are ready for the Kindergarten pages. It’s nice to have something to challenge them so they won’t get bored.

I love the Math practice pages as I use the grade 2 ones for my kids that need a challenge and the first grade book for those that need review and reteaching

As a new teacher, I am always looking for extensions on lessons. These math practice pages are the key to making sure my students understand lessons on their own. It lets me know if I need to reteach the lesson

I’m pleased to see some workbook pages that don’t overwhelm students. The free workbook page I printed will engage my students, since there is a riddle at the bottom. I found the Table of Contents easy to read and locate extra practice for objectives to the curriculum I teach.

Great ideas from this book. Helps when you move to a new grade level.

The sample pages look great. They work well with extending students work when they are finished as well as reaching all levels of learners. I’m always impressed with Mailbox!!!

I like what I see on the sample pages.
As a new kindergarten teacher I am looking to build my tool box. This looks like it is a great start.

These look great! I can use them for extra practice and as morning work!

  18. 13 Dec 2008 at 2:39 pm 20.  Marty Beth

This is great! My students need the practice but plain worksheets get so boring!

  19. 12 Dec 2008 at 6:57 pm 19.  Nicole

This looks like a great book. Our math series lacks on additional practice and I can already see where this book will fill in some gaps. I’ve printed off the sample pages already.

This looks like a really nice book. We have a new math series this year, and I feel that it needs more, and I am always pulling from other places to make the lessons hardier.

  21. 11 Dec 2008 at 12:14 pm 17.  Valarie

This looks like a great book! My 4th grade students struggle with math facts and I am always looking for a new way to drill them!

  22. 10 Dec 2008 at 11:18 pm 16.  Jocelyn G.

I like using the practice sheets during center time to reinforce the skills we are working on as a whole class.

  23. 10 Dec 2008 at 6:58 pm 15.  Kimberly B

My students struggle with math facts. I think these pages are a great way to give them extra practice…and the pictures make it fun!

  24. 09 Dec 2008 at 1:43 pm 14.  Beth R

We just adopted a new math series this year, and basic fact practice is the one piece that is missing. I am sending the pages that I printed home over the winter break for fact practice. :)

After taking a look at the Table of Contents I was pleased to see the way the skills are broken down. Such as with the ordinal numbers to 3rd then on to 5th. I find in Kindergarten the students sometimes need to take baby steps. Having the quick worksheets to move the students just a step closer with repeated practice is a delight.

Over the years of teaching different elementary grades from PK-6th except for 2nd, and 3rd I have seen that no curriculum has everything needed for the students to get the practice needed to mastery the skills required. And every year there is a new or updated list of skills or methods added without resources. At the same time more testing is added which cuts down on time in the classroom for multiple types of activities to reinforce the skill to the mastery level. I do not know how many of you teach kinder or pk but in my town these are half a day classes but the skills and concepts expected for mastery are the same as those of a full day which makes it doubly challenging. Your worksheets help the child want to practice and I like using them for exta practice, homework, sometimes parents ask for extra work to use at home or on vacation.

Another homeschool mom here… I love this book I found it in my local teaching store. It is on my wish list for Christmas…. Has anyone thought of doing one of these for Pre-Algebra or Algebra? I homeschool middle school and high school kids as well… The saddest part is they are all getting to old for Mailbox…:o( I love all the great ideas!

  28. 08 Dec 2008 at 8:59 pm 10.  Jessica

I’m a homeschool mom who loves new ideas on how to capture my kids’ attention. This looks like it would fit the bill.

  29. 08 Dec 2008 at 8:22 pm 9.  Heather

This looks fantastic! I’m always looking for math skill sheets to send home for extra practice!

  30. 08 Dec 2008 at 5:23 pm 8.  Kim M.

I recently returned to teaching. The Mailbox books and website have given me several new ideas that I use with the children in the Montessori School that I teach at. The math worksheets that I downloaded allow all my students to have fun with math, while still learning the basics.

  31. 08 Dec 2008 at 12:56 pm 7.  Tiffany R

I am always looking for a little extra to do in math. This book will be a great way to reinforce the skills I have taught in whole group math. I plan to do both sample pages provided.

  32. 08 Dec 2008 at 12:42 pm 6.  Margaret H.

I love your sample pages! My kids would love this book! Mailbox products are the pages I use the most often. The children always enjoy doing the worksheets. I love the illustrations on the worksheets too!

  33. 08 Dec 2008 at 12:28 pm 5.  Monica C.

I love using practice sheets like these! We use Saxon Math at our school and I feel that most of the time that my students need a little extra practice than what the sheets that go with our math provide. Sheets that are appropriate and all in one book is exactly what the super busy teachers we all are need!!! Thanks Mailbox!

  34. 07 Dec 2008 at 9:17 pm 4.  Sue Savage

I am looking for any extra pages I can get. I am a new teacher and use many of the mailbox ideas already. I think my children will love the goldfish activity.

  35. 07 Dec 2008 at 7:43 pm 3.  Lisa H

I’m a first year teacher and it’s been hard finding simple practice activities for my students. The second sample page (with butterflies) will be perfect for homework. I plan to send it home next week. Sometimes it is hard for students to practice at home because math in Kindergarten evolves around manipulatives. It’s great that the page included counters!!!

  36. 07 Dec 2008 at 4:44 pm 2.  Judy W

I like having a variety of sheets available for the students. We did the sample worksheet after counting out groups of goldfish crackers. We then ate the crackers, followed by the worksheet, as the students finished up. Everyone can work at their own pace.

I am really excited about this practice book. I have many books that have practice pages in my collection, but from looking at the table of contents and the sample pages I can see that this book aligns with our grade level content expectations perfectly. This book will allow me to provide practice pages for my students at their individual levels, while I work with students in small groups.
