It’s hard to believe that the first quarter of the school year is winding down. If you haven’t already done so, you will soon be preparing report cards for your students. Now is the perfect time for YOU to reflect on your work as a teacher over these first weeks of school. What are you most proud of so far this school year? What do you think has been your biggest accomplishment? Let’s provide some inspiration for each other by sharing all the amazing things (both big and small) that teachers do for kids. I can’t wait to read your comments.

My biggest accomplishment is not being afraid of my Promethean board anymore. I like technology, but only when it works. I have tried to use my board for the last two years, but always run into problems. It took my 13 year old to show me a few tricks. I love that I can do whole group teaching of anything from place value to The First Thanksgiving. I LOVE my board now!
I’m thrilled this year to incorporate a magnetic board (20×24)mounted near the entrance of my classroom. Each student is assigned a number according to their last name alphabetically. The numbers and names are out of sequence only when I get new students during the year. At the top is “Have YOU Turned in…. Then I use highlight tape to mark off the board- 2 columns down(vertically) and 6 rows across(horizontally). On the left I’ve listed things with a dry erase marker students have taken home and need to turn back in such as field trip forms, lunch forms, progress reports, papers to be signed, conference confirmation, . On the right I write the #s 1-23 going across the row. Students return papers and erase their # off the board. A quick glance lets me know which parents to write a note to in the students’ agenda as a follow up. This is working out wonderfully!
Help, I teach Pre-K 3, when one of my students turn 4 they become a real challenge for me. They test me on every corner. When I ask them to stop talking or obey a certain rule they do for a few minutes and them they are right back to their old ways. Any ideas on how to handle their testing of obeying rules and using self control? I use happy and sad faces but for some it doesn’t really matter if they get a Sad face. Thanks for your input.
Classroom management has always been a task that I could overcome pretty easily. But the 5th grade group I have this year has been quite challenging. I have worked hard on social skills, organization, communication, and rewards this year, and I can say that my biggest accomplishment is finally getting my students to understand why they need to value their education and take more responsibility in their part of the whole equation.

I use the handwriting generator I found online. The first few weeks they were allowed to trace their names. My class also has to look for their name everyday on a pocket chart. Once they find their name they flip it around and see a picture of them. Now they don’t trace names they are able to write it! I just make sure all over our classroom their name is somewhere so they can identify it!
Amy, do you mind sharing how you did this?? I have some that are struggling and need some new ideas….
My biggest accomplishment for me this year is that my kids have really adjusted well each and every time that we have had to restart school. Which has been for us this year three times due to hurricanes. It’s been rough and do you know that my PreK 3 year old little darlings have done well remembering their routine and schedule well as well as adjusting smoothly. So I think for me my biggest accomplishment is making school so interesting and fun that the kids have managed to forget the bad stuff and really focus on what good stuff they have had going for them at school. And that for me really makes me feel good!!!!! I must be doing a lot of good.
My biggest accomplishment this year is having my pre k class write both their first and last names!! It;s been a rough couple of weeks but they are doing awesome now on their own!
