Two New Editions of The MAILBOX!
Posted by Debra Liverman on 23 Sep 2008 | Posted in: Teachers and Teaching, The Mailbox
Kindergarten and Grade 1 teachers, are you ready? Two new editions of The Mailbox magazine are coming! That’s right: we are splitting the Kindergarten–Grade 1 edition of The Mailbox into two separate magazines—one for Kindergarten only and one for Grade 1 only. These new magazines will be in the mail the first week of October and the online pages will be posted at two new Mailbox Companion levels on October 8. That’s less than 3 weeks away!
Although the magazines are new, the managing editors are some familiar faces.

I’m very excited about this new change. I first subscribed to Mailbox when it was Pre-k & K, primary, and intermediate. Putting K and 1 together was a huge improvement, but this is FABULOUS!!! I’m very ready to get my first issue just for 1st graders.
I am very disappointed that the K1 magazine is splitting into two. I teach both grades and have really come to rely on the mailbox magazine to help each month. I will most likely buy one grade with my co-worker buying the other. It is just too good of a magazine to let go! I love the online extras. I also like the Teacher’s Helper magazine. All are so wonderfully organized and age appropriate.
I also am very happy that the two grade levels will be separated. I feel that some of the material in the K-1 addition was too hard for K. It will be nice to have everything in the K addition designed especially for K.
The editions used to be separated back in the early nineties. I stopped getting the magazine when they combined first and kindergarten. It will be nice to have it back to how it was.
I have been enjoying getting on your website. You have great things to choose from. I like the calendars the best, but I noticed I can’t get 2009 when will they be available?
Thanks
I’ve been using Mailbox since I began teaching. Having used the Second Grade version for a few years, I really missed the usefulness in comparison to the Kindergarten-First Grade edition. Now, I have something to look forward to. Thanks a bunch for making this change!
Thanks for recognizing the need to differentiate between K and 1! As both a long time subscriber and a long time(!)Grade 1 teacher, I’ve often felt that neither Mailbox version was “just right” for my students! I’m anxiously anticipating the new Grade 1 edition! :o)
